Photograph you. Photograph them.
Why? Because you’re beautiful. I’m guessing you may not always believe it, but it’s true. Let me provide the reminder, when you need it. These portraits are for you. And later, for those you love. Tuck them away, if you want, and only pull them out when you’re feeling tired, unappreciated, or simply worn down by the day to day routine. Or better yet, display them proudly everywhere throughout your home, because you’re only getting better with age! Let them be a reminder that while it may not always seem so, you’re confident…you’re valuable…you’re beautiful (always), and you can be downright glamorous when you want to be. Know these portraits of YOU will be heirlooms for your children…and grandchildren. Your significant other will fawn over them, your girlfriends will be envious of them, and most importantly, YOU will be IN them. Photograph you...because you are beautiful.
Day to day, it seems our children remain the same. The changes occurring are so gradual, we don't necessarily see them. And then one day, we come across a photo from days past, and it's then we can see how much they've grown. We see that those chubby cheeks have thinned, legs are becoming long and willowy, and they now have arms that reach all the way around us when we hug. In an instant, it becomes too apparent that time is in fact marching steadily by, and gives few concessions in response to our wishing it slow down.
If you're at all like me, your memories are often triggered by the photos you take of your child. When you see the snapshot of your little one on their bike...their feet a blur because they're peddling so fast, you remember all the skinned knees it took to get them there. And remember the snapshot you captured just as your little one climbed on to the bus for the first time? You kept a brave face, even though you remember wanting to chase the bus down as it pulled away from the curb. Those everyday snapshots are priceless because of the memories and feelings contained within them. Whether they're perfectly composed doesn't matter so long as anytime you look at them, they trigger the memory...and the memory triggers the feelings.
So why should you invest in one or more fine art portraits of your child if you already have, as I do, thousands of snapshots? Well, to put it simply, I want to provide you more than a snapshot...as wonderful as they are. I want to create a portrait of your child that encapsulates all the changes that have been and yet gives a glimpse of those yet to come. The beauty of childhood is that it is so fleeting, and therefore so precious. I want to create a portrait that makes your heart swell and perhaps also makes it ache just a little, because you understand that even in the moments between my creating the images and you receiving them, your child has continued to evolve and will never again be what they were on that day. I want this to be a portrait you'll want to display for years to come because it's a constant reminder of the beauty that was, is, and always will be your child.
